3RD SEPTEMBER 2024

Meet the lastest addition to the Poorpaws clan. Dickie the Brittany with little Robbie who headed up the welcoming committee. Dickie came to us from the Pheonix Association who know of my love for Brittanys and who had been asked to find a home for Dickie after his owner was taken into hospital and who is not expected to be in a position to care for either himself or Dickie from now on. Dickie is 14 and is a delight ! He is friendly, gentle and gets on with all the others, even the grumpy ones. His one problem is that he is very deaf, so walks off lead are not possible until I am sure that he knows the way home. This takes us up to ten dogs just when I was celebrating getting into single figures for the first time in nearly 20 years. Who’s counting ?! Dickie was the name of a best friend’s husband who sadly died 15 years ago (also deaf !), so how could I say no !

The other week Danielle and I did the vide grenier in Montcuq. After a disappointing result from the usual clothes stall last year, we decided to give clothes a miss and sell the usual, excuse me, vide crap. The result was not better, so we may well go back to clothes next year, which at least are good fun to sell rather than bric a brac that I wouldn’t give houseroom to !!!

Sad to report that one of the Roumanian dogs who have been with Danielle for nearly a year now and who was adopted and went off to Belgium …….. was brought back four days later !!!! Apparently she didn’t settle. Durrh, the first time she had been separated from her sister and she was expected to turn into the perfect dog in three days. This is so sad and has really made Danielle think hard about letting dogs go too far away.

There have been other adoptions, Skippy the Brittany and U’Ikau the puppy have both gone to great homes and we had this heartwarming photo of U’Aikau leading a horse down the lane into a field. A homing made in heaven !

Now we are just about a month from the next Book Sale and I have been collecting and reading like crazy in order to be able to offer you a fantastic selection of books. Childrens’ books free, paperbacks one euro, hardbacks half price, dvds four for one euro, cds five for one euro. If you have books to donate, please make sure they are in good condition and don’t come together with your dead spider collection …… You can contact me by email – susanglibbery@gmail.com – or by ‘phone 0565245303. If you have my mobile ‘phone number please don’t use it as we have no reception out here !

I hope you have had / are having a fabulous Summer and I look forward to seeing you on the 5th October.
