So, here we are in June …… JUNE ! I would just like to emphasise that because if, like me, you have been watching the tennis at Roland Garros, you would be forgiven for thinking we were in March or November, seeing the spectators wrapped up in thick jackets, scarves and, yes, no kidding, I have seen furs !!!! Yes it is tennis season again, Roland Garros, Nottingham, Queens, Eastbourne (not necessarily in that order) and, finally, Wimbledon ! My favourite time of year before “what do we do now” July 15th !! We don’t have extra sports channels as some of my pals do, so cannot watch tennis throughout the year, therefore this month is very special to me. However, only watching at this time does mean that I have to catch up on the current players, which takes a day or so……. a week if I am honest, as I get older !!! Bring back Stefan Edberg I say !!
It is with great sadness that I have to report that another of the early Poorpaws rescue dogs has gone to join the doggie angels club following a short fight with cancer. Caline was adopted 12 years ago and gave great joy to her family who loved her to the moon and back. She was a great playmate to the boys playing football with them, though trying to defend and attack both sides at once ! When her footie days were over, she settled into the role of Matriach helping new dogs settle into the family. The world is indeed the worse for being one Brittany short, though the football matches ‘up there’ will be more interesting !
Moving on to happier Brittany news, I am delighted to report that Tellis has finally found her forever home and has a Pyreneen Mountain dog as a new playmate. The latest news is that they are delighted with each other and having the best of times.
We have new dogs on the adoptions page of this website and I would put in an extra ‘nudge’ for Luigi who desperately, desperately needs our/your help. He is with Danielle for a few weeks and she reports that he is a very friendly laid back dog, albeit a little wary of other male dogs to begin with.
As we go into Summer (honestly) and, hopefully, warmer weather, so the fetes and vide greniers will be getting into swing. These are fun for humans, but hell on earth for dogs (especially the fetes with loud music) and it breaks my heart to see dogs being dragged around at these events with only legs to look at or other miserable dogs. So, please, please, please, leave your dogs at home in the shade and have a great time yourselves.
I’m heavily into book collection again, so get stuck into your Summer reading and give me a call when you have done, so that others can buy for their Winter reading in October !!
I learned this morning of the death of Rob Burrow (no ‘s’ !) and I think that whether you are a rugby fan or not, he and his pal Kevin cannot help but have touched your heart. Both a lesson and example in humanity much of which is sadly lacking in our world today. We are worse off without him.
Love,
Sue x
